We start with the landing zone and the operating model, not with the first workload. Identity, networking, logging, tagging, and cost allocation get standardized before anything production-grade moves. Migration waves are scoped to deliver a measurable business outcome per wave, with cutover criteria and rollback procedures defined up front.

Where it makes sense, workloads get refactored — not for the sake of “cloud-native,” but because the legacy architecture is the root cause of the cost or reliability problem the migration was supposed to solve.
